Bringing together a love for both the Arts and Medicine
Hannah (Green) Mayo graduated from Vail Christian High School in 2012 and has since embarked on an inspiring journey that brings together her love for both the arts and medicine.
After high school, she attended Mercyhurst University, where she initially pursued dance. However, an anatomy and physiology class sparked her interest in the medical field, a turning
point that ultimately led her to a fulfilling career in podiatry.
During her time at Mercyhurst, Hannah spent her summers teaching Classical Ballet at the prestigious Nutmeg Ballet Conservatory of the Arts in Connecticut. This experience allowed her to further her skills and develop a well-rounded appreciation for both the discipline and artistry of ballet. In 2016, she graduated from Mercyhurst with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Dance.
Upon completing her degree, Hannah returned to the Vail Valley and began working as a medical assistant at Vail Dermatology, gaining valuable experience while applying to medical schools. Her dedication paid off when she was accepted to Kent State College of Podiatric Medicine, where she graduated in 2021. Following medical school, she completed a three-year residency in podiatry at Denver Health, further specializing in foot and ankle care.
Now a respected Foot and Ankle specialist, Hannah practices alongside Dr. Brian Maurer at Eagle Summit Foot and Ankle, with offices located in Avon and Frisco, Colorado. Her commitment to her patients and her community continues to make an impact in the Vail Valley.
In 2018, Hannah married Andrew Mayo, whom she met during her freshman year at Mercyhurst University. Andrew is now a data scientist for Smucker's, and together they have built a beautiful life in the Vail Valley with their two-year-old daughter, Elizabeth. The family recently purchased their first home, marking an exciting new chapter in their lives.
Reflecting on her time at Vail Christian High School, Hannah fondly remembers the teachers and mentors who made a lasting impression on her. Her English teacher, Camille Cooper, nurtured her love of reading, while Principal Jeremy Lowe was always actively involved and continues to stay in touch with her to this day. She also credits her college counselor, Mrs. Nancy Whitley, with helping her find the perfect college match at Mercyhurst University.
When asked what advice she would offer to current VCHS students, Hannah emphasizes the importance of appreciating the present and cultivating meaningful relationships.
"Don’t focus on the short-term. I wish I would have looked further out and had a vision for the future. Let God take the wheel"
For Hannah, her faith and the strong connections she developed with her teachers and peers were key to her success, and she encourages students to prioritize those
bonds.
