Carving His Own Path in Cybersecurity
Christian Bohren (Class of 2014) has always had a knack for curiosity and innovation, a mindset that led him into the ever evolving world of cybersecurity. After high school, he headed to Texas A&M University to study Business Management and Information Systems. He didn’t just hit the books, he thrived in the Business Honors program, joined Beta Upsilon Chi, and competed on the Sailing Team, all while earning Summa Cum Laude honors. By his junior year, an internship with Dell Technologies in Austin set him on the path toward a career in tech and security.
From Ethical Hacker to Business Owner
Christian’s first big step into the cybersecurity world was with Zyston, a Dallas-based security firm. There, he specialized in ethical hacking, penetration testing, and cloud security solutions, helping businesses and non-profits safeguard their data. But after two years, he was ready for something bigger.
In 2020, Christian took a leap of faith and started his own company, Greatheart LLC. As Founder & Principal Security Engineer, he now works with over three dozen companies across the United States, the Caribbean, and Germany, helping them identify vulnerabilities and strengthen their security systems. His passion for protecting digital information has turned into a thriving business, built on expertise, innovation, and a little bit of risk-taking.
Never Stop Learning
Even with a successful company under his belt, Christian isn't one to sit idle. He’s currently pursuing an MBA at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, set to graduate in May 2026. Always looking to sharpen his skills, he stays ahead of the curve by researching open-source intelligence (OSINT), cybersecurity threats, and ethical hacking techniques. He’s also a regular writer, sharing insights on everything from Google dorks to the Log4Shell vulnerability, helping businesses and individuals better understand the ever-changing world of cybersecurity.
Advice for VCHS Students
Looking back, Christian has some words of wisdom for students at Vail Christian High School:
"Don’t follow the recipe. Figure out what you're truly interested in, and then go after it."
And when it comes to picking a college, he shares a lesson his dad taught him:
"Education is what you make it. People chase top schools because they think they should, but at the end of the day, it’s the people around you that shape your experience. Find your people."
The Road Ahead
From Vail Christian to Texas A&M, from hacking security systems to running his own cybersecurity firm, Christian Bohren has always followed his own path. Whether he’s protecting businesses from digital threats, networking with industry leaders, or writing about the latest security challenges, one thing is clear, he’s just getting started.
